Emily Dickinson has definitely been one of the most talented poets this earth has ever seen by far。 The atmosphere of most of the poems is limited to life, death, and love in nature or for nature。Dickinson's childhood, shaped by a Calvinist pastor father, shows in her religious references and it's so fascinating to get a perspective from someone who writes so sensitively and melodramatically, but in a good way。 Her sensitivity to natural phenomena and her depressed mood balance each other out in Emily Dickinson has definitely been one of the most talented poets this earth has ever seen by far。 The atmosphere of most of the poems is limited to life, death, and love in nature or for nature。Dickinson's childhood, shaped by a Calvinist pastor father, shows in her religious references and it's so fascinating to get a perspective from someone who writes so sensitively and melodramatically, but in a good way。 Her sensitivity to natural phenomena and her depressed mood balance each other out incredibly well。 It is almost adorable how she characterizes nature and humanizes it。 And it must be said that your personal path in life is at least as interesting as it were。 A young, misunderstood, queer woman, about whose sexuality there are entire treatises and to this day the question of whether she was bisexual or compulsive heterosexual。 Her poems referring to homosexual love, in particular, are so full of emotion and sensitivity。 When researching your person, I found it particularly interesting that "Belts of Melody", a volume by her, but published in 1945, dealt with two unmarried young women in love, just like herself。Very, very, very recommendable。Power is only Pain-Stranded, tho' Discipline,Till Weights - will hang -Give Balm - to Giants -And they'll wilt, like Men -Give Himmaleh -They'll Carry - Him!'Tis not that Dying hurts us so -' Tis Living - hurts us more -But Dying - is a different way -A Kind behind the Door -To die - without the DyingAnd live - without the LifeThis is the hardest MiraclePropunded to Belief。These were some of my personal favs。 。。。more

Dickinson's poetry is my comfort read。 I come back to it again and again because she just "gets" how I feel。 It's so beautifully emotional, yet very precise with the language and line breaks。 Just perfect。 Dickinson's poetry is my comfort read。 I come back to it again and again because she just "gets" how I feel。 It's so beautifully emotional, yet very precise with the language and line breaks。 Just perfect。 。。。more

Having recently read a few poems by Dickinson, I needed to get my hands on more, and I was thrilled to read this。The book is divided by themes, and I especially loved the poems about nature! Her way of describing flowers and bees and the sea is just absolutely beautiful, and I’m so glad I tabbed all my favorite poems, so I can go back and find them! Now whether or not Dickinson was a sapphic woman hasn’t been confirmed or denied, but some of her poems can certainly be interpreted that way, and it Having recently read a few poems by Dickinson, I needed to get my hands on more, and I was thrilled to read this。The book is divided by themes, and I especially loved the poems about nature!

Emily Dickinson was probably the first poet I was ever introduced to as a child so I decided to go back and read her collection。 They’re still just as beautiful and haunting as I remember。

I am actually in awe。 Emily Dickinson's work is just so—I can't even think of good enough words to describe it。 I'm actually mad that I can't come up with something。 So much stuff to interpret and think about。 Opens up the whole world。 Would be happy reading this forever。 I am actually in awe。 Emily Dickinson's work is just so—I can't even think of good enough words to describe it。 I'm actually mad that I can't come up with something。 So much stuff to interpret and think about。 Opens up the whole world。 Would be happy reading this forever。 。。。more

You can't give Emily Dickinson a 1 star review。 It feels anti-American。 Anti-woman。 Anti-poetry。 So I just didn't give it any rating。 That makes me a better human, right? As a first time Dickinson reader, I just couldn't get into the poems。 There were a few that really stood out in a positive way。 But others I kept trying to read and reread and just couldn't muster any feeling outside of boredom。 The only poem I really enjoyed was: IF I can stop one heart from breaking,I shall not live in vain You can't give Emily Dickinson a 1 star review。 It feels anti-American。 Anti-woman。 Anti-poetry。 So I just didn't give it any rating。 That makes me a better human, right? As a first time Dickinson reader, I just couldn't get into the poems。 There were a few that really stood out in a positive way。 But others I kept trying to read and reread and just couldn't muster any feeling outside of boredom。 The only poem I really enjoyed was: IF I can stop one heart from breaking,I shall not live in vain;If I can ease one life the aching,Or cool one pain,Or help one fainting robinUnto his nest again,I shall not live in vain。 。。。more

SO GOOD 。 Everytime I picked up the book and read a poem I immediately had to put it down and recollect myself because she just hits all the spots in my heart 。

When I read some of Emily Dickinson’s poems in one of my college English classes for the first time, I just knew that I had to seek out more。 I can’t help but see myself in Dickinson’s poetry, and her influence on my writing has gradually become more apparent since。 This one took me a while to finish because I’m not used to reading poetry collections; I only recently realized that I need time to absorb each poem individually。 I mainly opened the book when I was longing for inspiration or wanted When I read some of Emily Dickinson’s poems in one of my college English classes for the first time, I just knew that I had to seek out more。 I can’t help but see myself in Dickinson’s poetry, and her influence on my writing has gradually become more apparent since。 This one took me a while to finish because I’m not used to reading poetry collections; I only recently realized that I need time to absorb each poem individually。 I mainly opened the book when I was longing for inspiration or wanted to reflect。 What I appreciate most about Dickinson is how she is so unapologetically herself。 While her writing is simplistic, I think her style allows me to be introspective while appreciating the way her language seamlessly instills beauty within mundanity。 The only reason I am giving this book a 4/5 is because there were occasional lines that felt tonally out of place, as well as certain poems that I didn’t feel connected to。 Otherwise, I had a great experience reading this collection, and I know I will definitely come back to many of the pieces! 。。。more

I mean, am I gonna give it four stars? So tender and so cold。 These poems make loneliness and communion feel like two loving partners in a cycle both feeling-full and unfeeling。

I don't really feel the need to rate this。 She is canon for a very good reason。 Her work is beautiful but of course dated, and while much of it works and is still stunning, much of it is very specific to her life and its time period and is thereby less accessible to contemporary readings。 That being said of course all of it still maintains the iconic singular style that she coined。 However, I will give her five stars because I relate to her being a weird white lady who is reclusive, likely queer I don't really feel the need to rate this。 She is canon for a very good reason。 Her work is beautiful but of course dated, and while much of it works and is still stunning, much of it is very specific to her life and its time period and is thereby less accessible to contemporary readings。 That being said of course all of it still maintains the iconic singular style that she coined。 However, I will give her five stars because I relate to her being a weird white lady who is reclusive, likely queer, and wrote poetry and didn't socialize much。 。。。more
